Mmorpg rant part 2:Silverfall
March 2, 2007 at 5:04 pm (Mmorpg)
I was watching some gaming related videos last night and decided to take a peek at the other video at game trailers dot com when I found this atrocity.
Just in case you can’t open the video or dont understand what the guy is talking about let me shed some light for you.
To create Silverfall we gathered a group of skilled individuals and our goal was to create a universe that was as integrated and as consistent as possible with an emphasis on fun. An immersive universe and a story that could engage the player.
Translation: We were too incompetents to create a game so we payed some peoples to do it for us. Note that they talk a lot about a “Universe” and im pretty sure that what they mean by that is that you will be able to play in the world that they created and see a sun rise and set… maybe some stars that you wont be able to visit too.
We wanted to fully immerse the players, give them more freedom in the game with the characters that they identify with. We settled on four ethnicities and two genders. We figured that would be a good basis. That choice gave us a lot of possibilities, a lot of diversity.
So because I can select my race and chose to be a guy or a lady im supposed to feel free and immersed? And what about “a lot of possibilities” and “A lot of diversity” 4 races and 2 gender is enough diversity for you? All the rpg games I have played have more selection then this.
The Silverfall universe was designed to be the setting of a hack & slash game. At the level of gameplay we wanted to add a lot of immersion and freedom this led us to the story of the choice between nature and technology which led us to modify the universe. This is the sort of evolution that took place.
In fact I remember hearing that Silverfall was designed to be a Mmorpg but I just learned that they decided to make an action rpg with it instead because they messed up really bad. Not to mention that Hack & Slash games are the worst rpg games you can ever find on the market… with a few exceptions.
We wanted to do something more exciting then to just give the players some homes or little wings, that’s been done before. So we asked ourselves “What would be fun for the players to do with the character?” for example transforming into a werewolf or having a huuuuuge gun and a cyborg like arm. This seemed much more interesting and these choices resulted in a world full of creatures.
Oh yeah… I would really like to see my character take a second generic form provided by the game creators or have a different weapon that does massive damages… wait… that’s been done before. As for owning your own house in a mmorpg ( A house that would be part of the game world and would actually be usefull ) and wings that would allow a player to fly in a 3D Mmorpg… that remain to be seen as far as i know.
So in short they have failled to show their so called “Universe” failled to show the creatures of the world ( just a brief presentation of the 4 races ) and they’re full of shit.
This game could have become a good mmorpg but they litteraly failed and now the game will be some lame action rpg. I pitty the fool who will spend money for that game… it’s not even out and the ratings are going through the floor… litteraly.
